Self-storage units are a great way to create extra space in your home, office, or other personal or corporate space. But when it comes to packing a self storage unit, common sense sometimes flies out the window in an effort to get as much as possible in the unit, as quickly as possible. We’ve put together a few tips and tricks for packing a self storage unit!
Start With A Plan!
Packing your self storage unit should start with a plan – a layout that you can return to in a pinch, making finding items within the unit easy to locate. Without a plan, items (whether heavy or light) can just get thrown in on top of each other, making access difficult and dangerous!
Have You Considered Storage Boxes & Containers?
Try to use storage boxes or containers as much as possible. Those big bulky items may not fit, but smaller things, especially those that are fragile (hint: lamps!) should be packaged up carefully. And make sure that boxes are marked – on all sides – so that you always know what is in them.
Don’t Forget The Shelving
Buy a freestanding shelving unit to make storage easier. Avoid using leftover wood stacked on a filing cabinet as a makeshift shelf – that has trouble written all over it!
