Like you need something else on your list of things to do this spring! But, for many storage unit renters, it’s a good idea to visit the unit at least once in a while and to clean and declutter the unit when you do.
This might sound like an odd thing to do if you use the unit purely for storage of stuff that you don’t use often and just don’t have place for at home. Why clean out a unit when it will be just as you left it?
Well, you’ll just have to read the reasons you should spring clean and declutter your storage unit to find out. Here we go:
1. You Might Find More Space
Even if you use your storage unit just for storing old stuff, it’s a great idea to visit the unit and at least do a ‘de-clutter’.
As time goes on, you might change your mind about what you want to keep. Sometimes you look at something in the unit and wonder why you ever kept it.
Another scenario that we see a lot of is forgetting exactly what’s in the unit. People will visit and say ‘there’s the widget I’ve been looking for!’.
In both cases, you get rid of that extra stuff. Remove enough of it and you might open up enough space to add more things. Or maybe you’ll find that you don’t need such a big unit and you can downsize.
2. Business Users
If you run an ecommerce business, simply sell stuff online or use a storage unit to keep stock or inventory, you’ll probably visit the unit fairly often. But you don’t always have time to put everything back in its place each time you do. Planning to do a ‘spring cleaning’ the next time you visit will help you keep things organized. And if you take customers to the unit to see what you’re selling, you want it to look its best.
3. Actual Spring Cleaning
If either of the first two scenarios above apply to you, then actually cleaning out the unit will be helpful too. If you happen to get rid of some things and want to add more, the cleaner the unit is before you add items to it, the cleaner those items will remain.
For business users, a cleaner unit not only helps keep everything that’s in it cleaner, but, again, it helps create a better impression if you ever take customers to the unit.
Whether you use your storage unit frequently, or haven’t been to it in years, there’s one more reason to do a spring cleaning: it feels great when you’re done!
